	Why would I want to choose? Energy deregulation gives customers the choice of who supplies their energy. You can choose NOVEC, your hometown supplier, or another company. Your choice can be based on your own needs and preferences including how and where the electricity is produced, price, and environmental considerations. Why Choose a Cooperative? An electric cooperative is a private independent electric utility business incorporated under the laws of the state. They were established in the late 1930s because rural customers had no choice. The power companies would not serve customers deemed to be unprofitable. Cooperatives are owned by the consumers they serve and governed by a board of directors elected from the membership. The board of directors sets policies and procedures that are implemented by the cooperatives' professional staff. Locally NOVEC is your electric cooperative. We are owned by our customers.
